Crazy (Lazy?)Days of Summer

Whoever came up with the term "lazy days of summer" must not have had children!! Here's a rundown of our summer thus far....

Gariet's home from Germany, and had a great time. As far as his favorite part, he says, "the food." They went to a bakery and did a tour one day. They made their own German pretzels. He loved the bread!
He has been home for a couple of days now. Long enough to get his driver's license, do cross country time trials (he ranked 22 out of 40ish), get a physical done, and go to a dentist appointment. Tomorrow he leaves to go work scout camp for three weeks! We hope to have him home on the weekends (they are off from Sat 10AM to Sun 12 noon) to finish up this Eagle Project.

Gregory is has been on his high adventure trip. They (3 adults and 4 boys!) went camping. While they were there they tubed down the river, went horseback riding, mountain bike riding, and generally had a great time. He has been working a lot too. He worked a week of a "camp" down at the elementary school as a counselor, and does yard work for a few people on a pretty regular basis. He is excited to be off to EFY next week. Erin has been cleaning out her room and getting rid of a lot of things. I'm really proud of her. She worked all week at day camp with me to complete her first personal progress project. She and our great friend Kylie ran the music portion of classes, etc for me. They were awesome!! She will be working to finish a bunch of personal progress goals this summer and has ideas for a couple of other projects as well. She went to her first year of girl's camp and had a great time. She is also taking a set of 6 cello lessons during the summer.

Sean is swimming. He is doing a GREAT job. It is helpful to be the oldest kid in the group (He swims with 8 and under since he was 8 when the season began.) Having skipped a year, he really needed to be in that group anyways, so that he could learn the strokes. He will probably qualify for the county meet in a couple of his events. He did the butterfly for the first time at last weeks meet and got first place! The coaches moved him to the butterfly portion of the medley relay this week! Of course, he went to day camp as well.
Oh, and he's very happy to have had a birthday. It's still a very exciting thing when you are 9!

I started off the summer with a bang, with Erin and I going to CA right away. It was a fast trip, but we had a good time visiting friends and family. And of course, when we got back from that it was time to put all the finishing touches on Cub Scout Day Camp. Our numbers stayed below 200 this year, so that was a blessing! As I already reported, it went well.

Darrell is working from home most of the time right now. We barely saw his in April and May because he was doing so much traveling, so it has been nice to have him home for a couple of weeks in a row. He actually went to girl's camp too. He was amazed at the amount of trash the girls made, and they were amazed at the things that could be made in his dutch ovens!

So, there is our month of June. We've had fun, but maybe we'll find some of those "lazy days" in July.
